Female Cardinal

The male cardinal in the previous post is by far the recognized bird. Its bright red feathers make it seely seen in the green leaves of summer or the white snow of winter.

The female cardinal is duller in appearance, but is equally distinguished. Like the male, the the female has an accentuated crest and redish cone-spahed bill. Even to the casual observer, the female's reddish bill stands out especially in the gray tree bark of late winter. Posted by Picasa
